About the performance

The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra invites children aged 3-11 to bring their grown-ups to Hamer Hall for our inaugural Fairytale Ball! Dress up and enjoy magical music, works accompanied by ballet dancers, plus pre-concert activities for all the family.

About Jessica Gethin

Australian born conductor Jessica Gethin has been hailed by audiences and critics for her stellar musicianship, vibrant energy and charismatic stage presence.
Jessica will lead the Orchestra and read from an enchanted storybook, plus present a pre-concert conducting workshop in the foyer.

Repertoire

The Orchestra will perform a selection of the most well-known music for children, from the delicate Dance of the Sugar-Plum Fairy, to the booming Hall of the Mountain King, and the mysterious Hedwig’s Theme from the Harry Potter® movies.

Pre-concert activities

From 9.30 – 11.30am, join in pre-concert activities in the specially-decorated Hamer Hall foyers, including face painting, a conducting workshop with Jessica Gethin and an instrumental petting zoo, where you can discover your favourite orchestral instruments up close.
